First online SESSION of the ISA Oral English Exams
Our first online session of the ISA Oral English Language Examinations successfully concluded in October and November with ISA examiners from Canada and students from Argentina and Uruguay. In this session were 5 Canadian examiners: Susan Duska, Jim Dobbin, Deborah McGladdery, Grant Paterson and Vincent Hanlon who connected with 355 students from St. Catherine´s School Belgrano – St. Catherine´s School Tortuguitas from Argentina and Woodside School from Punta del Este, Uruguay on the specified day and time.
The purpose of these examinations was to evaluate the acquisition of communicative skills in Oral English Language divided into different sections:
- Primary, Junior and Intermediate levels: Prepared component, Conversation and first-sight Reading.
- Advanced level: Impromptu speech – Prepared component – Conversation and first-sight Reading.
The 4 levels of the examinations are aimed at different ages :
- Primary (ages 8/9 years old)
- Junior (ages 10/11 years old)
- Intermediate (ages 13/14 years old)
- Advanced (15/16 years old).
As a result of the interview, in which examiners evaluate fluency, pronunciation, diction and expression, students receive a thorough feedback on their performance. This allows students and teachers to identify the areas where they do really well, and areas in which there is room for improvement.
These meaningful examinations which have been held since 1994, offer students a sense of purpose for learning a second language while building trust on their communicative skills, prepare them to face experiences such as public speaking and debate and also allow schools to assess the acquisition of Oral Language skills in their students.
We congratulate the students for their good performance and teachers for their preparation. It was a real pleasure to witness the students´ sense of accomplishment as they left the examining room.
