TEDxYouth@YIS: Dear Future Me

With a 5-speaker lineup, this year’s TEDxYouth@YIS is centered around “Dear Future Me”. Far too often, we overemphasize our past as we ponder what could’ve been and what we should’ve done, if only we knew better. Our speakers aim to shift their focus away from an obsessive rumination of their past to a hopeful outlook on their future.

For the past few months, I, along with Truitt (Gr. 11), Hong Pin (Gr. 12), Emily (Gr. 12), and Shannina (Gr. 12), under the supervision of Mr Rostan, have pitched in our respective strengths to help our speakers express their vision for the future. Our talks begin with Erik (Gr. 7) and his microscopic but bold solution to achieving a greener planet, as he shares an innovative algae he came across in a summer internship. From one modern technology to another, Maya (Gr. 11) will expose the extensive damage caused by our obsession with social media and image, striving to share how we can learn to be our “true selves” along the way. Social justice takes center stage with Sana’s (Gr. 10) talk, where she will fight for the implementation of anti-racist classrooms and educations systems to ensure an anti-racist future. Harune (Gr. 11) will delve into the dark side of “positive” stereotypes and the significance of our toxic understanding of the “model minority”. Finally, Veronika (Gr. 7), a passionate Ukrainian, will share her 3-step-guide to ensuring a culturally resilient nation in the face of Holodomor and the current Russo-Ukrainian war.
